Are you serious? This is in no way a floating shelf. Nor is it a shelf bracket. You built a shelf with horseshoe shaped brackets. A floating shelf has no brackets at all.

Most people think bookcases when you say shelves. And many people use term “floating shelf” for all kinds of shelving. This is why I used the terms that most people can connect to and understand.
What you say is true. But this type of shelf bracket is quite popular. And when combined with a wooden “floating shelf”, you get a great decorative and practical wall item.
